We are deeply grieved to learn the tragic news of the sudden passing of Elisabeth “Lizzie” Knot, a devastating blow to her family, friends, teammates, and the whole Calvin community.
Lizzie was a fantastic athlete and a huge tennis fan during her time at Illiana Christian High School. The sportsmanship and kind heart she showed on the court were matched by an enthusiasm that made her so much fun to be around for everyone in her life. Lizzie was one of the important cogs in the Calvin University women’s tennis team and displayed enthusiasm and special energy that were contagious to her teammates and coaches.
But aside from talent in athletics, Lizzie will be remembered for her character. She was caring, and lending a hand either on or off the court came naturally to her. The commitment she showed toward helping people around overflowed into all that she was doing, which makes losing her so very, very hard.
Her former coach paid his condolences: “Lizzie was so much more than a player; she was the heart and soul of our team. Her infectious smile and never-stopping work ethic inspired us all. She was that kind of person who made you want to be better, not only as an athlete but also as a person.”.
Lizzie’s passing has left a huge hole, and the Calvin University community has come out in huge numbers to remember her legacy. The university organized a memorial for Lizzie, where friends, family members, and teammates alike all came together to celebrate the impact she had on their lives.
The beloved Elizabeth Knot will be greatly missed, but the gentle soul and all the good deeds she had done are alive in the memories of every person who had the good fortune to know her.
