Joseph Platt Obituary: The Wheaton Academy community is mourning the death of sophomore Joe Platt, an excellent athlete, following a devastating car accident in South Elgin on Tuesday. His passing brings a lot of sorrow to the family, friends, teammates, and classmates since everybody is lamenting the death of a promising and potential life.
Anthony Lombardo, a former Wheaton Academy member, confirmed the tragic news on social media platform Facebook with a heart-wrenching tribute:
“We are saddened to share that our brother, Joseph, passed away last night. To know Joe is to love Joe, and while we grieve his loss, we find peace in knowing he is now with his Lord and Savior. We will keep you updated on arrangements as we come together to honor and celebrate Joseph’s life. R.I.P. Joseph Thomas Platt. We love you so much, Buddy!”
Joe was much appreciated for his athleticism, dedication, and kind heart. Joseph Burrington was a great student at Wheaton Academy, a hardworking athlete, but more than that, such a good classmate and friend. His positive attitude, unrelenting work ethic, and unyielding commitment to academics and sports made him an outstanding person in the eyes of his school and community.
The crash happened Tuesday evening, police say, at the intersection of McLean Boulevard and Stearns Road in South Elgin. A vehicle struck a pole at the crossing; the impact was deadly. After the crash, Stearns Road was shut down temporarily and reopened later Tuesday evening.
Investigations are still going on as to the circumstances of the crash. However, Joe Platt’s death has already left such a big impact on those who knew him. Family, friends, and teammates are getting together to reflect on the good moments shared with Joe and the legacy that he leaves behind.
