Yahacov Dennis Obituary: Eastern Illinois University (EIU) is mourning the death of a 22-year-old university student, Yahav Dennis, who was found dead early Saturday morning in Charleston, Illinois, during a welfare check by the police. Officers were sent at about 1:07 a.m. to the Lambo’s service station on West Lincoln Avenue after a 911 call was made by a man asking for immediate help, according to CPD. Those at the scene told CPD that Dennis allegedly was able to grab an officer’s gun and shoot himself, inflicting a fatal wound in what one officer described as a “rapidly evolving situation.”.

Emergency responders transported Dennis to the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was later pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, January 27. No officers were injured in this incident, and the case is under investigation by the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigations Zone 5. In a message to students Sunday, EIU administrators said they were grieved by the loss. “Earlier this weekend, we and the entire Charleston community were deeply saddened to learn that EIU student Yahacov Dennis passed away,” their message said. However, the university would not comment further because it is “our protocol and as the investigation continues.”.

Yahacov Dennis Obituary

Dennis hailed from Chicago and had maintained a Facebook page in the name of Thomas Love. He also served in the Army National Guard and was well respected among fellow guardsmen. His untimely death came as a shock to the students, the faculty members, and the community. While police have ruled the death a suicide, skepticism abounds. On social media, friends and witnesses have raised questions, suggesting there may be more to the story. One friend called Dennis “a sweet, precious soul” and said his body lay at the gas station for 45 minutes to an hour before being transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and later airlifted to Urbana.

The lack of detailed updates on his case has further angered the friends of Dennis and the community of EIU. Many have taken to social media to demand transparency and justice on the issue. The post read, “This situation has hurt the whole EIU student body. We are seeking justice for Yahacov Dennis.” Neither the Illinois State Police nor the Charleston Police Department released additional information. An ISP spokesperson responded with only: “The investigation is in its infancy and no other information is currently available.”
