Dayla Swain Obituary: The Anderson Police Department says a tragic shooting outside of a business on South Madison Avenue has resulted in the death of 26-year-old Dayla Swain and injured two other women.
It happened over the weekend near Sonny Ray’s when officers were called to reports of gunfire. When they got there, authorities say they found a female in the roadway who had been shot and a second woman shot in front of a nearby residence. Both women were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. A third female went to the hospital later complaining of injuries resulting from being struck by a car in the panic that erupted when the shots were fired.
Unfortunately, the victim in the roadway succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. She has been identified as Dayla Swain, a caring mother and Anderson High School alumna.
Friends and Family Mourn the Passing of Dayla Swain
Swain’s untimely death has devastated her family and friends. Her cousin, Cameron Ahmad, wrote on Facebook how broken-hearted he was: “My Cousin did not deserve this, my family did not deserve this… I love you Cuz on my kids, Dayla Swain. I been begging them to let me move back.”
StephanyMae Stennis posted a heartfelt message and described Swain as a “loving and giving mother.”. “To know Dayla was to love Dayla! She lit up every room she walked into and was such an AMAZING MOTHER to our grandbabies. Losing her is like losing the glue of the family,” she wrote. Stennis begged for justice and pleaded with anyone who has information to come forward. “She was a completely innocent bystander caught in the crosshairs of SENSELESS GUN VIOLENCE. We MUST DO BETTER!!!”
Authorities are encouraging anyone with knowledge of the shooting to call Detectives Brett Webb or Travis Thompson at 765-648-6731. Now, as the investigation goes on, members of the community come out in force to mourn the loss of a young woman whose life was cut far too short.
Dayla Swain’s tragic death is an example of the devastating effects of gun violence, leaving a family and community grieving and in pain, trying to find answers. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
